Nature Therapy
Alongside providing therapy at my practice I also provide outdoor nature therapy (walk & talk) which can feel like a less intense experience for some as rather than sitting opposite each other we will be walking side by side and taking in the nature that is around us and all the health benefits which come with this. This type of therapy can be really effective in working through issues whilst being in the natural world and understanding your own unique connection with nature. Aspects of what we see around us whilst walking can be used as metaphors in order to help your describe or explain how you are feeling about certain issues or aspects of yourself and being outside in the fresh air can be naturally energising and invite a sense of wellbeing. Studies have shown that time in nature can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.
Where
We will agree on the location beforehand, if you’re feeling like you need some peace we could walk in the woods or find a quiet space to sit down and spend the session there. Alternatively, if you’d like to enjoy the expansive view of the sea, the coastal path is also available. It’s entirely your choice. We’ll always start and end at the same location. I’m fine to walk in any weather, but I understand if you’d prefer not to at times. If the weather conditions mean that you don’t feel like walking, we can easily move our session inside.
I offer a free of charge 15 minute consultation as this will give us the chance to meet and discuss any questions you might have along with ensuring that we feel comfortable working together. A connection is important for therapy to work effectively and for you to feel safe in telling your story. It will also help me to understand what you would like to get from therapy and our work together.
