I have had a great deal of experience of working within a variety of settings which include a women’s alcohol project, a family centre working with women and children and my own private practice.
I believe that as women we have issues and problems to deal with at certain times in our lives that are specifically about being female. These issues can create disharmony and imbalance which can make life become unmanageable. Issues such as relationships, sex, infertility, pregnancy, miscarriage, domestic violence, menopause, PMT and children all bring their own unique challenges and struggles even if some of them are positive. As women there is pressure to look a certain way and be a certain weight both of which are unrealistic and doesn’t promote individuality and difference. This pressure can affect our self esteem and leave us feeling unhappy and at worst worthless.
These issues can all bring to the fore difficult feelings which can be hard to get through especially if you have little or no support, however in my own experience and in my experience of a counsellor working with women, it is apparent that we can overcome these obstacles when we get the right kind of support.
Counselling is a space for you to be able to come and discuss issues that are specific to you in the knowledge that you will be listened to and accepted in a safe environment. No problem is too big to overcome and together we can work through and resolve the problems you are facing and achieve the goals that you set for yourself leading to a contented and happier life.
